Summer is Sizzlin' with Old Havana Foods



Old Havana Foods All-Purpose Sautéed Seasoning (Sofrito) will put some extra sizzle in your burgers. Made with all natural ingredients, gluten free and no trans fats our savory seasonings and black beans will heat up any outdoor meal.

Cuban American Burger (El Cubanito)  
1 lb         Ground beef
1 lb         Ground pork (or use all beef)
½ cup     Old Havana Foods® All-Purpose Sautéed Seasoning (Sofrito)
1 tsp       Pepper
6 slices   Swiss cheese (optional)
6             Hamburger buns or torpedo rolls
¾ cup     Raisin Sofrito Ketchup (recipe follows)
1             Tomato, sliced or chopped
6             Lettuce leaves, whole or shredded
1             Red onion, thinly sliced or diced
½ cup     Lime Spread (recipe follows)
 
1.  Pre-heat grill. In a medium bowl combine the pork, beef, sofrito and  pepper. Lightly mix until combined.
2.  Form meat mixture into 6 ( pound) patties to match shape of rolls and set aside.
3.  Grill burgers over medium-high heat until cooked through to 160˚F, about 5-6 minutes per side. If using cheese place on burger patties and after flipping.
4.  Toast buns. Spread bottom bun with 2 tablespoons Raisin Sofrito Ketchup. Top with tomato, lettuce, burger patty and onion. Spread 1 tablespoon lime spread on top bun. Enjoy!

Black Bean Burgers
2 cans    Old Havana Foods® Recipe Ready Black Beans, drained but NOT rinsed
½ cup     Old Havana Foods® All-Purpose Sautéed Seasoning (Sofrito)
½ tsp      Salt
¼ tsp      Pepper
tsp      Crushed red pepper (optional)
½ cup     Oats, uncooked
4 tsp       Extra virgin olive oil
6             Hamburger buns or torpedo rolls
¾ cup     Raisin Sofrito Ketchup (recipe follows)
1             Red onion, sliced or chopped
 
1.  Pre-heat a non-stick skillet over medium high heat.
2.  Meanwhile mash black beans with a potato masher or pastry blender or pulse in food processor until coarsely chopped but not pureed. Add Old Havana Foods All-Purpose Sautéed Seasoning (Sofrito), salt, pepper, crushed red pepper and dry oats. Lightly mix until well combined.
3.  Form bean mixture into 6 patties to match shape of rolls and set aside.
4.  Add 2 teaspoons olive oil to preheated skillet and swirl to coat. Sauté 3 burgers over medium-high heat until crispy, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. If using cheese place on burger patties and allow to melt. Repeat with remaining olive oil and burgers.
5.  Toast buns. Spread bottom bun with 2 tablespoons Raisin Sofrito Ketchup, Top with tomato, burger patty and onion. Enjoy!

Raisin Sofrito Ketchup
¼ cup     Old Havana Foods® All-Purpose Sautéed Seasoning (Sofrito)  
¼ cup     Ketchup  
½ cup     Raisins, finely chopped
 
1.  Place ingredients in blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
 
Lime Spread
½ cup     Sour cream (or mayonnaise) 
1 lime     Juice and zest
1 TB       Extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves Garlic, mashed to a paste  
              Salt, Pepper  
 
1.  Combine the sour cream (or mayonnaise), lime juice, zest, olive oil and garlic. 
2.  Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Black Bean and Corn Salsa  
1  can    Old Havana Foods© Black Beans (15 oz), drained, NOT rinsed
8 oz       Frozen corn kernels, thawed (do not use canned corn)
½           Small red onion, finely diced (about ¾ cup)
1            Jalapeno pepper, seeds removed, finely chopped
3 tsp      Cilantro, chopped
2 TB      Lime juice
1 TB      Red wine vinegar
2            Garlic cloves, finely minced
¼ cup    Extra virgin olive oil
½ tsp     Pepper
½ tsp     Salt

1.  Drain Old Havana Foods black beans, place in medium size bowl.
2.  Add corn, red onion, jalapeno and cilantro and mix thoroughly.
3.  Whisk together lime juice, vinegar, garlic, olive oil, pepper and salt to taste. Pour over corn and bean mixture and toss until all pieces are well coated.   
Serve with tortilla or pita chips.

Black Bean, Corn & Feta Dip
2 cans   Old Havana Foods® Black Beans (15 oz ea), rinsed and drained
¼ cup    Balsamic vinegar
¼ cup    Extra virgin olive oil
2 tsp      Sugar 
½ tsp     Pepper 
16 oz     Frozen corn kernels, thawed
½ cup    Green onions, finely chopped
6 oz       Feta cheese, crumbled 
 
1.  Place Old Havana Foods black beans in a colander, rinse and drain. 
2.  Meanwhile whisk together vinegar, olive oil, sugar and pepper in a medium size bowl. 
3.  Add corn and green onions and mix to combine.  
4.  Add rinsed, drained black beans and feta and gently toss. 
Serve with tortilla or pita chips.
